Overhaul Your Netbook with Ubuntu 10.10

Remember Jolicloud, the operating system created specifically for netbooks? It’s cool, but a bit limiting — especially for users who like to tinker, fiddle, and play with their OS.
Recently, mega-popular Linux iteration Ubuntu released version 10.10, and with it an updated Ubuntu Netbook Edition. The big news? An overhauled interface that caters to — you guessed it — netbooks.
Want to see it in action? The How-To Geek has a lovely screenshot tour of Ubuntu Netbook Edition that shows all the highlights, new features, etc. I haven’t yet had the chance to test-drive the OS myself, but I’d say it shares some of Jolicloud’s eye candy while offering a more robust, complete Linux experience. Might be just the thing for netbook users who aren’t digging their crampy, sluggish Windows install.
Ubuntu Netbook Edition is free, of course. To install it (or run it without actually installing it–a great way to “try before you buy”), you’ll need a USB flash drive with at least 2GB of free space.
